The Corner

The oldest part of the suburb.

Camberwell Barber Club is on Prospect Hill Road — the street the City of Boroondara calls "the oldest part of the suburb." It sits at Camberwell Junction, the six-way intersection where Burke, Riversdale, and Camberwell Roads converge.

The Junction gets its name from the Camberwell Hotel, built 1853 — a gold-rush-era rest stop on the road to Gippsland. It's been the commercial heart of Camberwell ever since. The Rivoli Cinemas, opened 1940 and listed on the National Trust, stand a few doors up.

When their banner says "Modern & Traditional", it's literally true of the street they're on. The green OPEN neon in the glass is the visible face of a shop that belongs to this corner.
